I’m back-I know I have not been around for awhile, but the weather has got me down and canceling all these meets is tough. Now its that time of the year, time for the conference meets. So once again its time for that and the varsity has not had a meet in over a week. I don’t like that and the jv meet, no idea on who can do what. Too much rain, the field events are getting nothing done. Last Friday we had a good meet at the first Mascoutah Invite, finishing 2nd by 3 points to Mt Vernon. It was a tough hard fought meet. But now we go a week and a half with no meet. Our next meet is only two before our conference meet, so we can’t set it up the way we want to.  Oh well, I’m starting to sound like Phillips. The freshmen had a good meet last week, there are some very talented kids in that group.  Well I’m not really into this right now, its been a long week at work, lots of early mornings and a lot of driving.  This weekend is prom I hope the kids have a good time and behave themself.

Points for your varsity letter-60 points are needed-would of been 70 points but since we have lost the Marion Relays because of Prom, I have decided to drop the total to 60 points. You score points by placing in a scored meet. If you finish 1st place whether its a individual event or a relay, you receive the points for that place. You also receive points for being in the meet. The larger the meet the more the points.  You also receive a point if you reach an incentive set by the coach.

Albert-31.5/37-Anderson 13/14-Barringer 11.5/13-Brown 18/20-Brummel 92-Brummet 46.5/55-Bullard 29/35-Clark 46.5/57-Crossland 44.5/48-Follett 40-Garrison 71-Goff 56-Goosetree 33.5/37-Green 27/29 Hanus 33-A Hargis 35-M Hargis 12.5/14-Harris 64-Heminover 64-Heser 50.5/56-Hopkins 49-Hess 32-Jones 61-Kloppadel 37-Kubicki 96-Meigs 14/16-Nix 50-O’Dell 20-Pontious 21-Prosise 38-Richards 14/18-Slover 10.5/12-Tate 28.5/34-Wilkins 93-Conklin 10-Woodward 15/18-Fredrich 33.

On the frosh/Soph points-the first total is your points toward your varsity letter, the other total is all points including your F/S meets. If you don’t understand come talk to me.

In the day-back when or back then. I remember going to the Orphan Relays at the old track, Evert Field I think is the name of the football field. Teams from all over came to the meet, teams from the northern part of the state, teams from the metro area. The meet was held on Friday night, under the lights. The stands were packed, the PE annoucer was calling the races, excitement in the air. I remember some big races. Fun to watch, seeing Purcell make a big come back in one of the relays, either a SM or DM or maybe even the 4×8. Last leg the other guy having a 50 to 60 meter lead, but it was not enough. I remember seeing Amason from Centralia doing the same thing a few years earlier. I might be getting some of this mixed up. I was there the night Salem won, I remember getting up early the next morning to get a copy of the Sentinal. Wildcats win the Orphan Relays.  The meet is still fun, the format is the best. But its not the same excitement, the new track has no press box, not even a grandstand. Just a few bleachers. The track is great, the meet is well ran, maybe even better than it use to be. Use to be a real problem at the finish line at the old track, some nights a big crowd would grow around the finish line, the runners be yelled at as they passed. The meet went well for us, our times are starting to drop. We had several guys with personal records. Green threw 41′3 in the shot put, Logan 119′ in the discus, Dan was over 130′ in the discus, and Shane also threw 41′3 in the shot.  Q was his solid self in the jumps and i was pleased with Doug in the his first long jump in a couple of years, going over 18′. Had some problems in the vault, but Sam had a school function and didn’t get to warm up. Its tough to vault with only one run through. I’m not sure even Superman would of cleared a heigth with no warm up. At least Travis made a clear. The hurdles looked good, two freshmen and two juniors. Byrce and Cory both made the finals, Bryce took 3rd. Heminover made the finals of the 100’s, thats a first for us at the ORS since I have been coaching. Other highlights-Matt Brummel with a 2:02 split in the 4×800 and a 50.4 in one of his 400’s. The 4×8 looked better, Kubicki was as tough as Brummel, 4:39  and 4:44 in the 1600 and a good 800 split. Thats tough. Back to the 4×8-Mr. Goff looked stronger and his time was better. Adam needs to start dropping his time in this race and we will be ok. There were others that perform well-the sprint relays looked better, we had our best time of the year in the 4×200-A Har, Hemin, Hanaus and Prosise looked strong. Our 400 crew Hop and J Brum, times are getting better. Clark ran a great mile, Nix pr in the 1600. Freshmen sprinters did a good job, Goose and Cross. Fred in the 300’s-Klop and Harris were tough running all those premlin’s and races. The talk of the track might of been Peanut Butter cups all the coaches were asking about him, he ran a good 3200, lowering his time again. Also JJ and his talking to me on each lap of his races, the last couple he quit talking, I later, why? He said he ran out of things for him and I talk about. The first two times he came by the O’Fallon coach looked at me fun, like why is he talking  to you when he runs by? I told him JJ is special and just not right!  Anyway I feel like we had a good meet, we had some fun, we peform well. One of the highlights had to be Kubicki trying to hold Walters off in the DM, only to have him pass him and then to take it back to finish in front and then the best part-the two of them with a pat on the back and hand shake for a job well done. Thats what makes track different than other sports, the guys respect each other, they battle during the race and then they will be real sports after.

Its 10:16 (good time for a 3200) in the night time, I just finished up catching up Mrs. Petrea and the school web site. So I have been at this computer through half of Criminal Mind and all of CSI New York. Where to start?  Or better yet, when to end. Spring break is over- school is back. We had two meets last week. A big home meet with 5 schools. We finished 3rd, should of been 2nd. Only thing I really remember is Joey Dalton and the 110 hurdles. Boy did he take some spills-spiked his knee and brusied up his ankle but he did not quit!  Oh I do remember the 1600M race-Kubicki had a great race and great time-4:44! Good deal. Bad weather most of the week. Also remember Bryce Harris starting to get with it. He had a good week. Its now 10:23 pm. Brummel had a good week, he ran some good 400’s and a good 800 in the 4×800! Some of the so called experts-said Matt might be carrying too much weight to run the 800, so much for experts.  The Belleville West was another moment to forget for the most part. Highlights-Harris to the finals of the 110. Brummel in the 400 with a 51.9-which they (timers) rounded up to 52? Ok why? if it was 51.93 then maybe round up. So did everyone that ran a . something get rounded up. That would mean all your 100 times would be 11, 12, 13, 14, ect. ??? Doesn’t make sense. Kubicki ran another good open 1600M 4:42.  Its now 10:29 pm.  That meet at Belleville shows why there needs to be the 3 class system.  Next Highland JV-first meet for the F/S to be against F/S. Thought the guys had a good evening.  Tate 2nd in the triple-the 4×800 2nd. Lets talk about Clark-he had a great night-2nd in open 800, a good leg of the  4×8 and a ok leg of the 4×4. Brummet had a good night also. These guys might make it as a team-there is enough there to work with, still some weak spots-but there is hope. 10:33 pm. This week we go to the Orphan Relays- always fun.

Its time for bed-the eyes are heavy. Chris Carpenter is hurt again-makes me feel bad.

Line up for Orphan Relays-4×1 mile Jones, Kubicki, Nix, Clark; 110 open Harris-Klop

100m open Heminover-?  300m relay-Harris, Klop, Fred-3200m Heser-4×8 Kubick, wilkins,brummel, Goff     4×2 f/s Crossland,Goosetree,Woodward, O’Dell-SM Nix,Hargis,Hanus,Heminover-4×1fred,Goose,Cross,Prosise-shuttle-Harris,Klop,Brown,?-DM-????-4×2V Hargis, Hanus,Heminover,Harris or Prosise. 4×4 Brummel,Brummet,Hopkins,Wilkins, ect ect.  jumps-Garrison,Tate-Garrison,Hanus-Garrsion-Follet-put-Green or pontious, prosise-discus-conklin,prosise or pontious.-vault-follett-hess

Congr’s to Sam on winning the pole vault and L Q for jumping 6′ in the high jump and placing in 3rd and 5th in the triple jump. Tate triple jumping 38′8, thats great! Bryce and Cory for getting to the finals of the hurdles and Byrce for finishing 4th in the finals. The 4×800 fresh soph team competed, I liked that from Clark, Brummett, Bullard and Albert. Nix had a good 3200 race for first time. Not much more to say, lots of stuff to work on both on and off the track!

First real outdoor meet, I’m nervous. I hope the weather is good. Lots of second quessing on my part. Do i have them ready? We will compete?  We have always competed on the track. But I’m not sure about this bunch. No real tough hardnose stud. No Pruden or Helpingstine or C. Hopkins. I guess we will see. The bus leaves at 1:30. The meet starts at 4 pm. Be home later. If the 4×800 varsity runs well we will be ok.They will set the tone. I would also like to see Conklin get a big throw out there in the discus. Follett get a big vault in, say 13′! And Le Roy get over that 6′ mark and maybe hit 42′.  Go Wildcats! Be nice to see some sub 2:05-800’s and maybe a 4:50-1600. Wish list: Jones 2:07 Goff 2:07 Wilkins 2:03 Kubicki 2:03!  Brummell a 51 split in the 400. Nix a 10:40-3200. T Hop a 52-split 400. Maybe some 23.5-200’s -a 110 ran at 15.2.

Greedy arn’t I.

See ya at the finish line!
