This time of the year, post season, little things bug me, tick me off. I don’t know why? Maybe because another season is almost over, and I get to thinking what I should of done, that I didn’t. I get tired of the question of when are we going to done, how long is practice going to last? We never practice very long, I remember when my kids ran at the high school, they never got home before 6 to 6:30. All so I except more focus, to me, after conference, post season is the most important. Who cares how you ran in September? Now is what people will notice! Now! At the regional, at the sectional. Not at Granite City, not at Mt. Vernon! This time of the year you need to quit being stupid, you need to take care of yourself, get your rest, eat right. Don’t jump on slow moving cars! Don’t drive to butterfly trails with 10 people in one car! I have very little silliness left in my tank this time of the year. I want my teams to do well in post season! They should want to do well, sometimes I’m not sure what they are thinking! Both teams have a chance to win a regional title, 1998 may have been the last time that has been done, i know the girls haven’t won one since then. We have that chance this year, but we will have to battle, we will have to be tough, we will have to be focused. Don’t ask me when practice will be over, don’t get to horsing around, don’t stay out during the school week, don’t hang around sick people.

How rapidly it all passes! Seniors have one last chance. You don’t realize what you’ve lost until it’s gone, then it’s to late and all thats left are memories and a lot of “I wish I woulda…” Juniors and Sophs this is you in the blink of an eye. I too remember the late practices and the determination the kids had, fighting (literally fighting) for a spot to be on a championship team. Memories are all you’ll have left and it’s your choice of what type of memories. I still run across pictures of those teams (check the trophy cases out in front of the gym Boys and Girls SECTIONAL champs!!) and the long trips and many hard fought victories they gave us. It’s fun to see the awe and respect on the faces of your opponents when you are warming up, but these are things you earn. Saturday you all have a chance to make a huge statement about the future of this program and to bring home some very prized hardware. Are you ready to step up?
